Buenos Amigos
First graders participate in Spanish lessons three times a week, learning vocabulary about physical characteristics, clothing, and weather. Your child will dress up for a fashion show and describe her outfit to her class—the articles of clothing, color, size, and where on the body she wears it. During Hispanic Heritage Month, he will study five Latinx influencers and learn their country of origin, history, and contributions to the world. Just for fun, we celebrate each country with a native dance.
By the end of the year, your child will be able to describe people’s physical traits, culminating in an oral presentation to her class called “all about me.” We know our students are enjoying and absorbing the language when we overhear them around campus sharing phrases and singing songs with one another in Spanish. With a little encouragement, your child may even practice when he’s out and about with you!
