Kicking The Competition–Girls’ Soccer

This article was featured in the River Oaks Baptist School student publication, The Raider Review. Written by 8th grade student journalist Conlee H., the article highlights the athletic achievements on the ROBS Girls Soccer team during the Winter 2022-2023 season.

Raider girls’ soccer had a great winter season! Coach Brooker and Coach Eddington lead the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams to many victories. Starting practice in October the team’s tenacity and teamwork led 7th and 8th grade to begin the season with two wins. The 6th grade girls’ soccer team had a solid season with a final record of 3-2-1! Not only did they have great results, but they also worked well as a team. They demonstrated exactly what ROBS is about and exemplified great sportsmanship and collaboration. Seventh grade also had a great winter season with a record of 4-4-1. They had two last minute goals, working together to be the best team possible.

“It was fun to watch the 7th graders through the practices and games, and I can’t wait to hear how they do next year!”

– Kathleen B. (8)

The 8th grade girls had a great season and became the first girls’ soccer HJPC champions in over 20 years. Their record was 12-2 and grew in skill and became closer over the season. They won the championship in a shootout with goalie Alex J. having the only save. The team had many emotional celebrations and a season they will never forget. Alex J. said, “This season is one I will never forget, and it will always be in my heart.” Her teammate Hanley C. agreed, saying,

“We bonded as a team over the season, and I could not be prouder with our final result.”

– Hanley C. (8)

Over all the girls’ soccer teams had three great seasons. They were hardworking and showed great teamwork. We cannot wait to see where they will all go in the future.
