Avid Readers & Writers

What’s in a name? A child’s name is the single most important word in her life. That’s why students’ names serve as the springboard for literacy learning in preschool. By coming to recognize her name—how it is comprised of the same letters in the same order every time—a child begins to grasp what a word is. Our Discovery room is carefully designed to build budding literacy skills, beginning with the classroom name chart.

From there, rich language experiences woven throughout the day provide your child abundant opportunities to talk, to listen, and to absorb new words. He will participate in songs, nursery rhymes, and finger plays, many of which you will recall from your own childhood. Hearing and repeating these familiar poems will kindle in your child a love of language as he learns, unforgettably, how to play with the sounds of words.
