Kind Friends

“There are three ways to ultimate success,” said famous philosopher Fred Rogers. “The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.” Spend time on our campus, and you’ll see students everywhere applying Mr. Rogers’ sage advice. A first grader may hold the door open as you approach the school entrance. On the playground, a second grader will notice a classmate sitting alone on the “buddy bench” and invite her to join a game of tag.

Third graders write encouraging post-it-notes to each other during morning meeting and stick them in each other’s cubbies. The notes might say “you have a great smile” or “you are a good friend.” To ease their transition to a new school, incoming Lower School students will be paired with a returning “first friend” in their class. We know parents need friends, too, so we’ll connect you with several new and returning families as part of a Family Circle. Some may even become forever friends.
