Participating in sports teaches kids so many important life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and communication. Students experience the direct connection between focused practice and improved results. At ROBS, we want every child to grow not only as a player, but also as a person.
Studies show that playing a sport even contributes to stronger academic performance. And of course, regular exercise translates into better physical and mental health. Beginning in sixth grade, our Raiders compete against other independent schools in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, golf, and volleyball. At least one participatory sport is offered each season so all students who wish to join a team may do so. We celebrate their participation regardless of athletic ability or prior experience.
Our skillful coaches motivate student-athletes to do their best on the court and field, while simultaneously cultivating respect for their teammates and their opponents. We want our students to play sports for fun. We also value the responsibility and understanding that come from relying on others, contributing to a team, and learning to win and lose with grace.
ROBS is a member of the Houston Junior Preparatory Conference along with AOS, Awty, Duchesne, First Baptist, John Cooper, Kinkaid, Presbyterian, Second Baptist, St. Francis, St. John’s, and the Village School.
